The history of The Dolphin Hotel

The hotel first opened on the 1st March 1986. It was built on the site of the original Dolphin Hotel, which was an old coaching inn.

It is a privately owned hotel, owned by the Wadsworth family who are well known in St Ives and the surrounding areas.

The term 'dolphin' in the hotel name does not actually relate to the marine mammal, despite it appearing in the hotel logo for many years. In fact, a dolphin is a man-made marine structure that extends above the water level and is not connected to shore.

When the hotel was an old coaching inn, boats could moor against the dolphin mooring posts when visiting the town, typically while the bustling town market was taking place.
